Hot Off the Press – Quilters’ Travel Companion 12th Edition and a Giveaway!

I don’t know what compels most quilters to seek out every fabric shop, but we do. I used to think it was just me – but now I know better. An absolute must for road trips is the Quilters’ Travel Companion. Published by Chalet Publishing, this book is a comprehensive guide to North American quilt shops, along with quilt show, shop hop, guild, and quilt-retreat facility information. They’re celebrating their 20th year with the 2012-2014 – 12th Edition!

The front cover of Quilters’ Travel Companion – 2012-2014 Edition.

The new edition, which is available now in your local quilt shop, contains over 2000 featured quilt shops, with key information about each shop (address, phone, number of bolts, business hours, specialties, etc.) and a map to its doorstep. Listings are organized by state, and geographically within the state, so ads for close-by shops appear together. A directory of all the state’s quilt shops appears at the end of that state’s listings. Quilt show, shop hop, and guild information is organized by state and time of year. Updates and new information can be found on the Quilters’ Travel Companion website. When you purchase the book and send them your email address, you’ll receive an up-to-date newsletter every six months.

As a quilt-shop addict and lover of road trips, I consider the Quilters’ Travel Companion an invaluable resource. (I’ve purchased the last three editions.) However, it’s definitely time for a new one. Here’s a look at my 11th edition: dog-eared in the front and soaked with a latte in the back. You should see the inside – lots of notes along with the coffee stains!

Audrey Swales Anderson from Chalet Publishing has generously donated a copy of the new edition for our giveaway. To be entered into the contest, post a comment by June 29th and let us know why you need a copy of QTC. The winner will be announced in my post on July 3rd.

Happy travels.

  3. Will I am getting excited now. A new Quilter’s Travel Companion book is out and I now know how valuable it can be. I had taken a class last year in the US and a lady in the class told me about the book, as I always asked “Where are the quilt shops in this area?”. She had an old one and brought it to me and I have been studying it everytime my husband and I get in the car. I usually say “There is a quilt store here, can we go?” lol He usually does, as he is a very supportive of my love of quilts. A New book would be oh So GREAT! I would love to win one. Thanks, Diana

  4. I use the book when we travel in our camper – my husband checks out lighthouses, I check out quilt stores. I especially hunt for fabric for my “travel” quilt. Each block represents something we saw or did – like an alligator in Florida, and cherries in Traverse City, Michigan.

  5. I’m so excited to see the new 2012 edition is out. I plan on travelling to Wisconsin, and other states, to quilt shows and shops this summer. I’ve used past editions during my travels and this book is an absolute necessity for checking locations, hours, etc. for all the wonderful shops. It would be great to win the new edition. Thanks for the opportunity.

  7. Several years ago I gave a Quilter’s Travel Companion to a friend as a “going away” gift. She had lived her whole life in Oregon and Washington. She was traveling by RV to see what the rest of the U. S. had to offer. I’m happy to say she found several good quilt shops in her journey. Now I’d like a copy to use on my travels. By the way, I truly enjoy the articles by the 4 authors of See How We Sew blog

  8. Just got back from Maine and only managed to find one quilt shop. With this book, I could have encouraged my husband to map out a route that would have taken us past more shops!

  12. The bug has bitten me. I recently traveled from Boca Raton, Florida to Colorado, to go to a dude ranch. On our drive in Colorado we stopped in Golden, Colorado and discovered a Quilt Museum and a fabulous Quilt Shop. I was lucky to find both and to think I might have missed seeing them.
So, now I know I need The Quilter’s Travel Companion book so I won’t miss a single shop during my travels. I’d love to have it. : )

  17. Wherever we travel, I look for a local quilt shop – the last was in Charleston, SC. My next trip is to Corvallis, OR to visit the grandkids. I’m sure there are lots of quilt shops along the way that I don’t know about. I could really use this book!

  18. I have relied on Quilter’s Travel Companion for the last six years on 7000mile round trip journeys to visit my now 91 year old mother-in-law in Michigan. My husband is soooo good and patient and encourages my quilting adventures. As we pass through the front door of each quilt shop he smiles and asks “Where is the bored husband’s corner?” and everyone has a good laugh. It is wonderful to share quilting stories wherever we go. The “Companion” makes it very convenient to locate shops along the way!…I have visited as many as 15 shops in one trip taking I80 east and returning southerly mostly on I40. Each region offers unique selections. As we passed through Joplin, Missouri I visited Bittersweet Quilts. I bought a pattern designed by a local quilter. After the devastating tornado in Missouri last year I called to learn that the shop was spared and extended my concerns to them. I look forward to the new edition for 2012-2014!
