Welcome to Day 5 of the  Tidal Lace Blog Hop showcasing Kim Andersson’s first collection with Windham Fabrics. We are so happy to be a stop on Kim’s tour!
Tidal Lace Blog Hop Tour
I’ve known Kim for a few years–remember she was one of our guest bloggers, earlier this year–and I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Kim bring her beautiful drawings to life in Tidal Lace. The fabric line has a special place in my heart as it reminds me of my favorite beach getaway, the town of Bolinas, just north of San Francisco. And would you believe that Kim also visited Bolinas while working on Tidal Lace! (It is so special that locals have been known to remove the highway sign telling you how to get there!)
Beach Ball Quilt
Pattern for Making Waves is now available on our Pattern Page.
We designed A Day at the Shore for the Tidal Lace fabric line to capture a feeling of a day at the beach. Remember that moment when you unfold and flick your beach towel so it catches the wind and then floats down to a patch of sun-warmed  sand? Grab your ice cold drink, sunscreen, and summer-time read . . . it’s beach time!

Beach Ball Quilt
When Laura, Jennifer, and I had a brainstorming session to design a project for this collection, the image of horizontal waves of fabric rolling across the quilt immediately came to mind. Big, colorful balls, bouncing and bobbing on the waves, were the perfect accent to our beach day story. Including the white border to the top and bottom emphasized the look of a beach towel. It was so much fun making this quilt!

We are working madly on finishing the pattern for our quilt! Stay tuned and we will announce it at SHWS, but if you can’t wait, leave us a comment and we will contact you when the pattern is available. A video demonstrating the wave-making technique is in the works as well.
Thank you for visiting SHWS for the tour. Be sure to check out all the stops on the blog hop with their wonderful inspirational projects made with Tidal Lace. I posted the schedule and links at the bottom of the page.

  2. Vacationing in sunny Bradenton, FL
found making waves quilt while visiting quilt shops in the area. (Cotton Patch Quilt shop) they had kits but I wanted pattern so I could make it for my grandson who is a fishing nut
Plan to use tidal lace and other fish fabric. Love the design and fabrics I saw at the Quilt shop.

My favorite beach is Popham Beach in Maine where we live; however, my son, his wife, and their son just sold their house in San Fran and moved to Pacifica where their favorite beach is located. I hope to have one of your designs ready to give them when we visit in the spring!

  4. For myself, every beach is beautiful. They cast a spell over me kind of like a vortex effect. As soon as I near it, I begin to calm, breathe easier, release all stress and relax. I am fortunate to have a home in Charlestown , RI where I can listen to the waves lull me to sleep!!

  8. I love the fabric. Anything to do with the beach, I love it. My favorite beach is New Smyrna Beach in Florida. Once a year my sisters and I come together at New Smyrna and enjoy our time together at the beach. Living in the winters in Montana makes the time all the more special. I will definitely make a quilt from this fabric to give me a bit of the beach all year long.

  16. I love your quilt. It brought back memories of taking my kids to Half Moon Bay. Throwing the beach towel up in the wind to spread it out on the sand, and then laying down on it to get out of the wind. Once we took a walk on the beach and forgot to secure our beach ball.

I love my local Lake Erie beach (Fairport Harbor)- it’s not glamorous and it’s only warm a few months of the year, but dogs are welcome on one end and it’s very kid friendly and we can get there in 20 minutes! Ii do love Sanibel Island, FL for the shells though. Thanks for the chance to win!

  27. Well, I have only been to the beach once. It was at Thanksgiving 25 years ago right after Hugo came thru so the sand was just about gone and there were still piles of trash and snow was forcasted. But I’ll vote for that beach — I think it was called Cherry something — near Myrtle Beach, SC.

My favorite beach is a place called Sandy Point. It is a little sandy island off of the coast of Connecticut and we paddle out and spend the day relaxing and watching the shore birds with no crowds. You can sit on one end and be in Connecticut, or go to the other side and be in Rhode Island. On one side it is calm and shallow and walk a few steps and you are on the open ocean with views of Fisher Island in New york, so you can see three states in one place.

  36. In my husband’s teen years, he and his friends spent a lot of time at Stinson Beach. My experiences with beaches is limited to summers at the Russian River beaches, which are fresh water beaches and Ocean and China Beaches. For years we passed Funston Beach almost daily commuting, but lately the beach at Chrissy Field seems to be very popular. The fabrics in this series are awesome and the combination of them and gorgeous designs certainly give you the feeling of being at the beach. I think I would have a difficult time deciding which quilt to make and would be tempted to make them all!

  39. My favorite beach is in the city of Pebble Beach. It’s right in front of Bird Rock on the 17 Mile Drive. We call it the “Wedding Beach” because my aunt and uncle got married there way back in 1972. I was a flower girl but apparently refused to go down the aisle. The only thing I remember about the event was that my peanut butter and jelly sandwich fell in the sand and it wasn’t so tasty after that. But through the years we visit this beach, playing in the waves and exploring the rocks. i am now bringing my own children there and they love it just as much as I did and still do!
